You have a lot of clothes you’ve had for a long time but don’t wear anymore because you find the design isn’t nice anymore or you’re just tired of the colour? Why not transform these clothes and give them a second life? With a little bit of imagination, you can create new and original clothes that you will actually enjoy wearing. Here are some inspiring ideas to transform your old clothes.
11. Transform a long camisole into a bodysuit
Place a pair of underwear near the bottom of your camisole.
Cut the edges but don’t cut the top part.
Sew snap buttons at the bottom of your new bodysuit.
That’s all there is to it!
10. Turn your scarf into a tunic
- Fold a scarf in 2 (choose one made with a light fabric).
- Make a knot on each side.
- Put it on by passing your arms in both holes.
- Place a belt around your waist.
9. Add a touch of originality to your t-shirt
Modernize your t-shirt by sticking an iron-on adhesive motif of your choice. We bet you won’t be leaving your new shirt in your drawer anymore!
8. Transform a skirt into a bustier
- Take a light fabric short skirt (not a pencil skirt nor a large skirt).
- Place your skirt under your armpits.
7. Transform your dress into a skirt
- Put a dress over a shirt.
- Put the sleeves of your dress inside your shirt.
- Make your dress sit on your hips like if it was a skirt.
- Ajust your dress to get rid of pleats and place your shirt on top of the dress.
6. An open-back shirt
This is very trendy. You can also do this trick with a lighter fabric for the summer.
- Choose the shirt you want to transform and cut the back vertically with scissors.
- Add velcro to the part of your shirt near your neck, and stick both sides together.
5. Transform a man’s shirt into a criss-cross top
- Put a man’s shirt on but don’t button all the buttons.
- Place it towards your chest, like a bustier.
- Tie the sleeves in your neck.
4. Transformyour old sneakers into glow in the dark shoes
In a bowl, add some baking soda, vinegar, water and mix it with an old toothbrush. Take the toothbrush and put the mixture everywhere on your shoes. Let dry. Take the surplus off by hitting your shoes against each other. Put fluorescent paint on your shoes.
3. Transform a shirt into a scarf
- Choose a thick knit shirt.
- Put the shirt on but instead of putting your arms in the sleeves, tie the sleeves in front.
2. Add lace detailing on your clothes
Take a piece of lace that you will place on the item of clothing you want to transform (like a stencil). This is perfect to transform old jeans or a light coloured shirt.
