After a long day, one of the best things to do is to go to bed and enjoy a restful and peaceful sleep. However, not everyone enjoys a great night of sleep. Some people have to deal with horrible sleep disorders like sleep paralysis, bruxism or sleepwalking. Even though some of these disorders can be treated, they are still incredibly mysterious and scary. Good luck trying to sleep tonight.
1. Nightmares
A nightmare is horrible since you often remember them after you wake up. If you want to avoid nightmares, try to do meditation or yoga to relieve stress and anxiety.
2. REM Sleep Behavior Disorder
Hopefully, you sleep alone if you have this sleep disorder since you punch, kick and scream during your sleep. You will also remember everything that happened during your dream.
3. Exploding Head Syndrome
Exploding head syndrome is when you are drifting off to sleep and you start hearing loud, abrasive noises. It is said to sound like giant cymbals clashing together or even a bomb detonating. People with this disorder also experience a shortness of breath and an elevated heart rate.
4. Night Terrors
Night terrors are worse than nightmares. You will scream and have violent body movements related to a bad dream you are having. When you finally wake up from this nightmare, you might even feel aggressive and have heavy breathing.
5. Bruxism
Ouch. Intense teeth-grinding happens to people who are extremely stressed. The grinding can, of course, damage teeth but your jaw will also hurt and some people can’t open their mouth at all.
6. Restless Leg Syndrome
Have you ever gotten a leg cramp during the night? That’s one of the worst things to endure during a restful night’s sleep. Imagine having painful cramping and a burning sensation.
7. Nocturnal Paroxysmal Dystonia
This sleep disorder is still very mysterious. People get seizure-like episodes that are said to be linked to epilepsy. This disorder is physically very dangerous.
8. Sleepwalking
Sleepwalking can cause you to do routine activities but it can also put you in physical danger.
9. Sexsomnia
This type of sleepwalking involves aggressive groping and intense sexual behaviours. Some men will forcefully enter their partners without being conscious of their actions.
10. Sleep Paralysis
This extremely scary sleep disorder happens just before falling asleep and just before waking up. What makes this so frightening? You cannot sleep nor move for minutes at a time but you are mentally awake.
