We all want to look outside our home, especially on a nice, warm day with sunshine, without seeing numerous stains on our glass windows. There is nothing worse than opening our blinds and finding out that the beauty of the scenery is dampened by dirty windows. Every window in your home should be cleaned every season or at least once a year. The problem is that cleaning windows can be difficult and tiring, but hiring someone to do it can be very expensive. So, what can you do? Find the easiest way of quickly cleaning your windows!
9. Make a cleaner with only 3 ingredients
Here is a technique that only requires a few ingredients that you probably already have at home. The greatest part of this technique is that there are fewer steps than with traditional cleaners. Are you ready to clean?
Forget window cleaners sold in stores. It is easy and very cheap to create a cleaner at home! All you need is an empty spray bottle. Rinse it well then add:
- 2 cups water;
- 1/4 cup of white vinegar;
- 1/2 teaspoon of liquid dishwashing soap.
Shake your bottle to mix it well. You can use a bucket and make a bigger batch of this cleaner with the same ratio if you have a lot of windows to clean.
Steps:
- Take your spray bottle with your newly prepared cleaner.
2. Spray your windows (be careful if you need to use a ladder).
3. Wipe your windows with a sponge.
4. Spray your windows right after with some water.
This cleaner won’t add streaks to the glass, so you don’t need to dry your windows to get clear and sparkling results. Enjoy your nice clean windows.
8. Wipe your windows with newspaper
Using newspaper is a good and affordable way of cleaning your windows. Indeed, all you need to do is spray a bit of water on your windows and to wipe them with newspaper so they sparkle with cleanliness. Notice also that newspaper, unlike cloths, will never leave lint on your windows.
7. Make a citrus smelling cleaning product
What you need:
- Distilled white vinegar (64 ounces)
- An orange
- Three lemons
- A Masson jar (32 ounces)
- A spray bottle
You can use this product to clean your kitchen counters, but you can also use it to clean stains on mirrors and windows, as well as to clean greasy stains on the stove top.
To make this cleaner, peel your citrus with a vegetable peeler or a sharp knife and place the pieces of the peel in a Masson jar – the pieces should ideally take half the space in the jar. Fill the rest of the jar with white vinegar and put it aside for 4-5 days before using the mixture – you want the oils of the peel to infuse in the vinegar. Transfer your mixture in a spray bottle and start spraying!
6. Remove stains from your windows with lemon juice
Lemon, like vinegar, can help you tackle the dirt on your windows. All you need is to mix the juice of one lemon with lukewarm water, to briefly soak a newspaper ball in the mix and then to wipe your windows clean with the newspaper. Nothing complicated in this!
5. Clean your windows with this homemade cleaner
What you will need:
- 2 cups water;
- 1/2 cup of cider vinegar or cider;
- 1/4 cups of rubbing alcohol (70%);
- 1 to 2 drops of orange essential oil (optional).
The next time you need to clean your windows and your mirrors, combine these ingredients and pour them into a spray bottle. Spray the mix on a paper towel or a soft cloth, then wipe the glass.
4. Dust your windows
Before cleaning them, take the time to dust your windows. A lot of people forget this very important step. This will save you a lot of time when it’s time to clean the glass.
3. Choose the right time to clean your windows
Don’t clean your windows when it is too hot or sunny since the cleaning product will dry too quickly and will leave a lot of streaks on the glass.
2. Use microfiber cloths
A good way of cleaning your windows is to use soft, microfiber cloths. Take a humid one to clean one side of the glass and use another to wipe the water and soap off.
1. Avoid getting condensation on your glass with glycerol
If you want condensation-free windows, you can pour a few drops of liquid glycerol on a nylon cloth or on a nylon stocking and then wipe your windows. It is a great way of removing any condensation on your glass while avoiding dust from accumulating.
