If you are a pet owner, you certainly know how much they can be great support to help avoiding the feeling of loneliness. They become our “babies” and we can’t help but to take care of  them like they are humans. Therefore when we have to leave them whether it’s for vacations, work or other obligations where we can’t take them we feel our heart falling apart. Unfortunately they share our feeling and leaving them alone can lead to bad behavior over time. To reverse its feeling, build a unique food dispenser from cardboard.

Usually, you need a friend or neighbor to come over everyday and feed your pets. However, by enslaving robots you can keep your pet happy and enjoy a stress-free holiday.

For a total budget under 5$, here is what you will need:

  • a jar
  • 1 popsicle stick
  • cardboard
  • 1 paper
  • hot glue gun
  • your dog’s food
  • Small rubber bands

(Video Instructions to follow)

1. Cutting cardboard

The Q

Use a plain cardboard to get a more prettier look. Cut 2 square of 5 x 5 inches, draw a banner of 1 inch large and get 4 trapezes.

2. Creating the bucket for food

The Q

Glue all parts together to obtain a small bucket. This will calculate your dog’s portion.

3. Solidifying with popsicle sticks

The Q

Cut your sticks in small pieces, 1 1/2 inch approximately. Be thorough with your hot glue gun while adding a tick portion of glue to your tinny sticks. Apply to specific places on your bucket, they will eventually hold small bands.

4. Treadle holder

The Q

Roll your paper with the help of a pen to get the right size and shape. Remove the pen and tape both ends. With hot glue add small door to stop the food from constantly falling. The door size should be around 1 1\2 x 3 inches. To this door, 2 very small part of your popsicle sticks are added. They are the other side holding the eventual rubber bands.

5. Create the box

The Q

Start with a 5 x 5 square to place at the bottom. Once you have 2 walls up and glued to your base. Create your third wall with a hole right where the treadle holder is getting out. Your last wall should also include a small hole in the rectangular shape to welcome the tray that will transfer the food to your dog’s bowl. Once all your walls are up, add a small pedal to your holder coming out of the box. Decorate as you wish.

Cut a hole in the middle of the lid. Fill the jar with dog’s food and glue a piece of cardboard that has a similar hole to your lid. Glue this entire part on top of your dispenser. To refile your dispenser, untwisted the lid and remove only the jar. Put it back together once it’s loaded.
