Applying some mascara can seem intuitive but there exists a certain technique to elongate your lashes that, when used correctly, can accentuate your look so people can’t stop staring at your lashes. There also exists a technique to enhance your lips as well as one to showcase your brows. Kimberly Soane, director of artistry at Bobbi Brown cosmetics gives you 10 simple tips for each product in your beauty box.
1. Concealer
Never put concealer or foundation on your eyelids as a makeup base since it risks creating creases. You don’t want your pretty creamy eye makeup look to have a creased look, like if you had wrinkles…
2. Setting powder
Always apply powder where your skin is oily, usually on your T zone. Then, sprinkle the setting powder on the rest of your face.
3. Bronzing powder
You should always apply some bronzing powder on your neck, on your face and on your chest to make everything look good and uniform. Stand back a little bit when you’re in front of your mirror to make sure that all the parts of your chest are the same colour.
4. Blush
When you apply blush, smile, then sprinkle the blush on your cheekbones. Then, sweep the brush towards your eyebrows.
5. Eyebrow pencil
Trace a pencil stroke or apply some powder along your eyebrow to have an instant lift. Your look will be highlighted in a snap.
6. Lipstick
For a uniform lipstick application, start applying some on your cupid’s bow and then on the sides before filling in the middle.
7. Eyeliner
Instead of looking directly in the mirror, get as close as you can get to it, tilt your head so your chin is tilted towards the mirror. Constantly look at your work while you apply the eyeliner. Start in the interior corner and make a line towards the exterior corner of your eye.
8. Mascara
Sweep the wand through the roots of your lashes and make zigzag strokes until you’ve reached the end of your lashes.
9. Eyeshadow
Prepare your eyelids for your look by opting for a matte eyeshadow as a base that corresponds to the lightest part of your face. Sprinkle the pigment on your entire lid until you reach your brow bone, then apply the different shadows you will use to create your look.
10. Foundation
Use your fingers to apply your foundation. The result will be more natural. You can also use a brush if you want more coverage.
